Sonia Gandhi, who has rarely given media interviews in the last few years, will be speaking at the 17th edition of the India Today Conclave in Mumbai this weekend.
Sonia Gandhi, who recently handed over the mantle of the Congress president to son Rahul after leading the party for 19 years, continues to be the chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
The Congress leader, however, is not new to the India Today Conclave. Then the Leader of Opposition, Sonia Gandhi spoke at the Conclave 2004 in Delhi. Over the next decade, she led the Congress and the UPA to big electoral wins in two consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
Her second outing at the India Today Conclave comes at a time when the Congress is in the Opposition and is getting battle-ready for 2019.
At the India Today Conclave, Sonia Gandhi will speak on this year’s theme ‘The Great Churn. Triumphs and Tribulations’. She will deliver the keynote address on Friday (March 9).
On Sonia Gandhi’s participation in the India Today Conclave, Kalli Purie, Vice Chairperson, India Today Group and Conclave Director said, “We are delighted to welcome Sonia Gandhi to the Conclave this year in Mumbai. She has travelled a long way since the last time she came to the India Today Conclave 14 years ago. Stronger, wiser, she has had a ringside view of our country and will be a delight to listen to”.
The other key speakers at this year’s India Today Conclave are chief ministers Amarinder Singh and Vasundhara Raje, Patidar leader Hardik Patel, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav among others.
