The Indian National Congress (INC) party’s protest demanding special category status for Andhra Pradesh entered the second day on Wednesday. Senior leaders of party thronged the Parliament Street venue in Delhi.
A day after party president Rahul Gandhi promised to fulfill the demand of ‘Congress comes to power’ yesterday at Jantar Mantar, other leaders reiterated the same today.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge arrived at Sansad Marg around 1 in the afternoon and gave a brief speech. Kharge slammed the union government led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“The BJP has forgotten the promise it made to people and once we come to power, Congress will immediately grant the status to Andhra Pradesh. We are with people on this,” said Kharge.
When asked the question if Congress is sending out feelers to TDP, which is threatening to leave the BJP alliance, Kharge hesitatingly denied the possibility and said, “This protest is not about TDP or any party. It is about Congress supporting people’s demand.”
